ChoiceCollect — Curbside Collection That Fits You!
The City of Sunnyvale and Specialty Solid Waste & Recycling are pleased to introduce the new ChoiceCollect residential garbage service, which is being implemented in three phases. This new garbage collection service:
- gives customers more options in container sizes
- provides on-call convenience for collection of bulky items
- increases the cost-effectiveness of garbage collection
- reduces collection worker injuries
- protects local air quality by removing five diesel trucks from service
- Conserves energy, water and natural resources by encouraging more recycling and composting.
Phase One: On-Call Bulky Goods Collection
Beginning July 1, and continuing year 'round, Sunnyvale residents may call City of Sunnyvale Utilities at (408) 730-7400 to schedule up to two annual, no charge collections* for:
- Extra non-hazardous trash
- Bulky household items
- Electronic discards or products NEW!
The On-Call Bulky Goods Collection will replace the twice-yearly spring and fall extra collection service. Sunnyvale will continue to offer Extra Dumping weekends at the SMaRT® Station® to all residents in spring and fall.
*Curbside quantities may measure up to two cubic yards plus two bulky items.
Phase Two: New Cart Selection
In August, residents will receive an information packet containing a letter, brochure and return postcard regarding how to choose a new garbage cart. Three sizes of carts will be available; 35, 65, and 95 gallons.
Phase Three: New Service Begins
Residents can expect delivery of their new carts between mid-September and the end of October. The new rate will go into effect as each home receives its new cart.
As an added benefit, in September residents will be able to begin adding mixed paper to the newspaper side of their recycling carts. This will reduce the amount of space taken up by mixed paper in garbage carts and increase the amount of paper recycled. Information about which mixed paper items can be recycled will be provided in September.
